Alfie Stirling
Former Director of Research and Chief Economist
Alfie is the Director of Research and Chief Economist at the New Economics Foundation (NEF). He leads the foundation’s research and policy teams across economics, social policy and the environment. Alfie has particular expertise in fiscal policy, monetary policy and social security reform, but has published research across a range of areas including finance, labour market reform, industrial strategy and family policy.
Prior to joining NEF, Alfie worked as a senior economist at the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR), leading their macroeconomic and fiscal policy research for the Commission on Economic Justice and managing the development of the IPPR tax and benefit micro simulation model. Alfie’s work receives broad press coverage in the UK and abroad, and he is a regular contributor in national media through TV, radio and print.
